Rollerball pens have a very smooth and very hard ball in the tip of the pen. Often times, the ball is made of ceramic for an extremely hard and smooth surface. In th photo on the left, the pen on the right is a Jr. Gentlemen's rollerball pen while the one on the left is the same model only in a fountain pen.
